For Indians in Australia, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is not just another series. It is the one that means something in both of your homes at once — the rivalry that fills group chats in Nagpur and lunchrooms in Parramatta with equal heat. In 2027, Australia tour India for five Tests, and if you have moved here in the last few years, this is the marquee India-Australia moment of the cycle to build your summer around.

The series window and venues

The tour runs 21 January – 3 March 2027, across five Test venues: Nagpur, Chennai, Guwahati, Ranchi, Ahmedabad. That is a proper five-Test contest — the long-form rivalry at full length — officially announced by Cricket Australia.

Here is the Test-by-Test schedule, as published by both Cricket Australia and the BCCI. Dates are local Indian dates; with play starting in the afternoon in Australia, they are the same calendar days here.

The Guwahati start is marked to be confirmed because the two boards currently disagree by half an hour: the BCCI lists 9:00am IST, while Cricket Australia lists 3:00pm AEDT (9:30am IST). We will fill it in once the official match centre settles it. Schedules can shift, so check the official match centre before you book leave around a day's play.

How to watch from Australia

The Australian broadcaster for this series has not yet been announced. Cricket Australia's own broadcast deals with Foxtel (Fox Cricket and Kayo) and Seven cover cricket played in Australia; rights to an away tour are sold separately, so do not take out a subscription for this series until the broadcaster confirms it. Here is the part that makes this series a joy to follow from Australia. A 9:30am start in India is 3:00pm in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart (daylight saving), 2:30pm in Adelaide, 2:00pm in Brisbane and noon in Perth. Just before it, India tour New Zealand from 22 October to 1 December 2026 — a neighbourly warm-up with viewer-friendly match times, since New Zealand runs a couple of hours ahead of the Australian east coast. And looking further out, the T20 World Cup 2028 comes to Australia and New Zealand, from 21 October to 19 November 2028. That is the next confirmed chance to see India play on Australian soil — and they will arrive as defending champions, having won the 2026 T20 World Cup. The 2027 tour is the series to savour on screen; 2028 is the one to save for in person.
