About This Event
Shree Jagannatha Temple Sydney, run by Shree Jagannatha Consciousness ANZ, observes Bijayadasami (Vijayadashami / Dussehra) together with Mahaprabhu's Raja Rajeswara Suna Besa on Wednesday 21 October 2026 at its Castle Hill temple.
Vijayadashami is the tenth day of Navratri, celebrating the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura and Lord Rama's victory over Ravana - the triumph of righteousness over evil, marked across India with the burning of Ravana effigies. At the Jagannatha temple the day is celebrated in a distinctly Odia way with the Raja Rajeswara Suna Besa: Lord Jagannatha is adorned as the King of Kings in magnificent golden royal ornaments, crown and jewellery. This golden adornment darshan is one of the most spectacular of the temple year. Devotees take part in aarti and bhajans and receive the blessings of the Lord in his regal form.
The temple's date lines up with the Sydney panchang: the Dashami tithi runs from 6:20pm on 20 October to 7:41pm on 21 October local time, placing Vijayadashami on Wednesday 21 October 2026 in Sydney. The temple has not yet released detailed timings or a running order - its event page states that timings and the schedule will be announced closer to the date, so check sydneyjagannathatemple.org before travelling. No admission charge or ticketing is advertised. The temple occupies Unit 29 within the complex at 5 Gladstone Rd, Castle Hill.
