Shree Krishna Janmashtami Celebrations 2026 (Chinmaya Mission Sydney)

Chinmaya Mission Australia (Sydney) hosts its annual Shree Krishna Janmashtami Festival Celebrations at the Chinmaya Sannidhi Ashram, 38 Carrington Road, Castle Hill, on Saturday 5 September 2026, running from 6:00pm through to 12:30am.

Part one is a family programme. From 6:00pm there is Maha Puja - the bathing of the Lord, which everyone can take part in - along with Veda chanting and bhajans, rocking the cradle, fun activities and exhibitions on Krishna Leela, and arati. At 8:00pm comes Madki (pot) breaking and dinner prasad for those leaving early. Devotees are asked to bring cruelty-free milk for the abhishek on Lord Krishna; prasad is available for children straight after the abhishek.

Part two leads up to the midnight birth of Lord Krishna. Bhajans, Nama Sankirtanam and a special talk on Shree Krishna Leela begin at 8:30pm, Geeta chanting (chapters 2, 3, 12, 15 and 18) at 9:30pm, a special offering at 11:00pm, meditation at 11:45pm, and at midnight the Maha Arati, rocking of the cradle and Maha Prasad.

Registration is $10 per person aged over 5, free for children under 5. Devotees are invited to dress divinely and to take part in seva: puja seva as a yajman performing the pooja under Swamiji's guidance, prasad seva cooking a dish to offer and share, flower or bouquet seva, garland seva, and cleaning seva before and after the festival. A chanting PDF is provided to print and bring if you are participating in the pooja, and donations to support the Mission are welcome. Parking is free at 40 Carrington Road, Castle Hill - but do not park between APAC bays 20 and 40 or under their buildings - with paid parking also available at the Hills Showground Metro Station public car park.
