About This Event
Shree Jagannatha Temple Sydney, run by Shree Jagannatha Consciousness ANZ, marks Srikrushna Janmastami - the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna - on Friday 4 September 2026 at its Castle Hill temple.
Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu, at midnight in Mathura. Devotees observe a day-long fast and break it only after the midnight puja and abhisheka. Through the day the temple resonates with devotional singing, kirtan and readings from the Bhagavata Purana. At midnight the birth of the Lord is celebrated with great joy - conch shells are blown, bells ring, and the divine child is rocked in a cradle (jhula). Prasadam is then distributed to all devotees. Lord Jagannatha, who is considered the ultimate form of Krishna, is specially honoured on this day.
The temple has not yet released detailed timings or a running order. Its event page states that event timings and the schedule will be announced closer to the date, so check sydneyjagannathatemple.org before travelling. No admission charge or ticketing is advertised. The temple occupies Unit 29 within the complex at 5 Gladstone Rd, Castle Hill - look for the unit rather than a standalone building.
