About This Event

For the first time in his career, playback singer Vinod Rathod steps onto an Australian stage. Over three decades he has voiced some of Hindi cinema’s most-played songs, and on 14 November he performs them live in Western Sydney backed by a full band. This is a seated, reserved, indoor theatre-style concert built for families — the songs your parents danced to and the songs you grew up hearing in the car, sung by the voice that recorded them.

Vinod Rathod was born in Mumbai in 1962 into one of Indian music’s great families: his father was the classical singer Pandit Chaturbhuj Rathod, and his brothers are ghazal and playback singer Roop Kumar Rathod and Shravan of the composing duo Nadeem–Shravan. His break came in 1986 when composer Usha Khanna heard his voice on a demo cassette; Shiv–Hari then brought him into the big league with Yash Chopra’s Vijay in 1988. Deewana, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Khalnayak and Baazigar followed, and he has since recorded more than 3,500 songs across Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Rajasthani and Bhojpuri, with two Filmfare nominations for Best Male Playback Singer.

The night features seven musicians on stage throughout plus supporting vocalists. Doors open at 6:00 PM with Indian food stalls in the foyer, and the show runs 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM sharp with latecomers seated between songs. There is free on-site parking at The Regency plus street parking on George Young Street; Auburn station is a 10-minute walk. Step-free entry, accessible toilets and wheelchair spaces are available in the reserved rows — contact the organiser before booking to be allocated a suitable seat. The venue is not licensed and is alcohol-free. Children under 3 enter free on a parent’s lap; all other children require a ticket.
