About This Event

The Vakta Mandir Sydney Trust holds its annual VMS Durga Puja on Saturday 24 October 2026 at St Marys Memorial Hall, on the corner of the Great Western Highway and Mamre Road, St Marys. The trust's listing gives the running window as 10:00am to 11:10pm.

Durga Puja honours the divine feminine and commemorates Goddess Durga's victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura, the triumph of good over evil. VMS runs the celebration in the Bengali tradition, with the puja rituals, prasad and community darshan at the centre of the day, and the trust explicitly invites the wider Sydney community alongside Bengali families to take part in the rituals and cultural festivities.

Entry is free for everyone. Donations are welcome and go towards the event and the trust's charity initiatives. Traditional Indian attire is encouraged - sarees for women, dhoti or kurta for men. Attendees are asked to RSVP through the trust's website.

In previous years the day has followed a consistent pattern of morning puja, pushpanjali, bhog lunch, kids' activities, kirtan, dhunuchi dance, sindoor khela, an evening cultural or musical programme and bhog dinner, which is consistent with the 10:00am to 11:10pm window advertised for 2026; the item-by-item 2026 timings had not been published at the time of checking.

Vakta Mandir Sydney Trust (ABN 77 105 157 718) or on 0433 761 562 / 0423 727 877.
