About This Event
In this hands-on cultural workshop, participants aged 8 and above create an 8-inch eco-friendly terracotta Ganesha idol using simple clay-building techniques. The session runs from 10:30am to 12:00pm ACST on Saturday 29 August 2026 at Tvisarts Studio in Maylands.
The workshop is built around 'Rebirth of Nature with Plant Ganesha', an idea that invites people to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi sustainably by shaping an idol from clay and planting a seed within it. It is a gentle, creative activity that encourages environmental awareness while honouring tradition, and offers a meaningful way to connect art, culture and care for the earth. It suits both children over 8 and adults.
The workshop is led by Sandhya Mulchandani, an Adelaide-based artist and art educator originally from India, who blends traditional Indian influences with contemporary styles. She works across watercolour, oil and acrylic painting, Indian mural art, charcoal and pencil sketches and soft pastel portraits, but her real passion is bas-relief sculpture - a contemporary interpretation of the ancient relief technique, using hand-building, carving tools and moulds to create three-dimensional clay work on wood panels, admired for its intricate detail and lifelike depictions of nature.
General admission is $30 through Humanitix, which puts 100% of its profits from booking fees towards charity. Refunds are available up to 7 days before the event. The studio is at 43 Phillis Street, Maylands SA 5069.
