About This Event
Celebrate the vibrant festival of Onam with the South Adelaide Malayalee Community. Join them for a day of cultural richness, traditional festivities and community spirit.
Highlights include a traditional Onam Sadhya - a lavish feast of Kerala dishes including rice, sambar, avial and payasam, all served on a banana leaf, which is the centrepiece of the celebration. There are also cultural performances showcasing Kerala's traditions, including the dance form Thiruvathira and vibrant live music.
The organisers also frame the day around community and networking: a chance to connect with fellow Malayalees, make new friends and strengthen community bonds. Traditional Kerala attire is encouraged - mundu or dhoti for men, sarees or kasavu mundu for women. The Onam Sadhya is served only between 11:30am and 3:00pm, with cultural programs running 4:00pm to 7:30pm.
