About This Event
Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple in Carrum Downs marks Adi Pooram with the Shri Visalakshi Laksharchana Poorthi — the concluding rite of the Laksharchana, in which the Goddess is honoured with the recitation of one hundred thousand of her names. The ceremony begins at 7:00pm and is followed by the Shri Visalakshi Rathothsavam (chariot procession).
It is one of several ceremonies the temple holds through Aadi Pooram day on Saturday 15 August 2026: Shri Andal Abishekam 8:00am, Shri Visalakshi Ruthu Shanthi 9:30am, Shri Andal Thirukalyanam 4:15pm, Shri Visalakshi Abhisekam 5:30pm, then the Laksharchana Poorthi at 7:00pm.
Adi Pooram falls in the Tamil month of Aadi and celebrates the birth and divine marriage of Andal, the only female among the twelve Alvar saints. Devotees of all backgrounds are welcome and there is no entry charge; sponsorship of individual poojas can be booked through the temple. Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple is the largest Hindu temple in Victoria and is operated by the Hindu Society of Victoria.
