About This Event
Hare Krishna Melbourne celebrates Balarama Purnima, the appearance day of Lord Balarama, at the Albert Park temple, 197 Danks Street, on Friday 28 August 2026.
The day programme runs: 7:00am Deity Greeting; 7:30am Class; 9:30am Kirtan; 10:30am Deity Bathing and Chanting; 12:30pm Arati and Kirtan; 1:00pm Feast. The temple then continues at 7:00pm with the closing night of the Jhulana-yatra Swing Festival.
The centrepiece is the abhisheka, the ceremonial bathing of the festival deities of Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra, followed by chanting, dancing and a vegetarian feast.
Lord Balarama, also known as Baladeva, appears in Vrindavana as Krishna's elder brother and His 'second body', assisting in Krishna's innumerable spiritual pastimes. The same festival is expected at ISKCON Southeast Melbourne and Wyndham Hare Krishna, with details to be advised on their Facebook pages closer to the date.
Everyone is welcome and there is no admission charge.
