About This Event
Varalakshmi Vratham is a Hindu observance to propitiate Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Varalakshmi is the manifestation of Lakshmi who grants boons (varam).
The vratham is performed principally by married women, for their own well-being and to ask the goddess to bless their husbands with health and longevity. Worshipping Varalakshmi on this day is held to be equivalent to worshipping the Ashtalakshmi - the eight aspects of Mahalakshmi, each representing a different form of wealth.
Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple at Carrum Downs marks the day with a ThiruVilakku pooja (sacred lamp worship) beginning at 7pm on Friday 28 August 2026, followed by dinner annadanam. Online booking is available and sponsorship is offered for all poojas; the temple asks devotees to contact the Temple Manager on (03) 9782 0878 for further details.
