YATRA — Melbourne Indian Classical Dance Festival

YATRA is a Bharatanatyam festival at the Tony Sheumack Centre for Performing Arts in Berwick, running from 5:00pm to 10:00pm on Saturday 15 August 2026. The programme is built around two internationally acclaimed performances: a solo recital by Smt. Priyadarsini Govind, one of the form's legendary exponents, and an ensemble production by Sridevi Nrithyalaya under the direction of Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan.

The festival also presents Mel-Born, a showcase of performances and conversations featuring some of Melbourne's pioneering Bharatanatyam schools, celebrating the city's artistic legacy and the continued growth of Indian classical dance in Australia.

The event is sold out. TryBooking has closed sales and is taking names for a wait list; the organiser contacts people by email if seats become available. When tickets were on sale they were $45 general admission, $40 concession (full-time students, pensioners, seniors, healthcare card holders and children under 16), $100 for a family ticket covering two adults and two children under 12, and $100 for a donor ticket that included premium reserved seating in the front rows.

All profits from the festival are being donated to underprivileged dance communities in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka, and the booking page also takes standalone donations towards future editions of the Melbourne Indian Classical Dance Festival.
