About This Event
About the performance
Ten Years To Home tells the true story of Rushikesh (Rushi) and Vasant Sheth, who migrated from Mumbai, India to Melbourne, Australia in 1959.
What was first meant to be a four-year stay following Rushi’s work transfer was extended again and again, eventually becoming an entirely new life for the family. The story unfolds through the perspective of their daughter Sonal, born during their years in Australia, as the play explores the interconnected lives of three generations of the Sheth family amid major social and cultural change.
At the heart of the work are the voices and experiences of three generations of Sheth women — Sonal, Radhika, and Evangeline. Written by Sonal Moore, this semi-autobiographical play reflects on growing up in the 1970s during the era of a predominantly “White Australia” and the gradual dismantling of that world.
