About This Event

Oikotan Inc., Brisbane's Bengali community organisation, brings back its popular Calcutta Street Food Festival for 2026 — an afternoon and evening celebrating Kolkata's iconic street food. Expect spicy fuchkas and tangy jhal muri through to juicy momos and refreshing cha, with the best of the city's culinary delights under one roof.

The festival runs from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday 1 August. Entry is free for everyone, but registration through Humanitix is required so the organisers can plan numbers. Food is not included in the free entry and is sold on the day at nominal cost; you can also pre-order dishes ahead of time through Oikotan's online store at oikotanqldcalcuttastreetfoodfestival.square.site, which is the safest way to secure what you want. Registrations are non-refundable.

The venue is Grange Community Hall, a heritage-listed timber hall at 187 Wilston Road, Newmarket, with polished timber floors, a stage, air conditioning and a kitchen. There are 16 on-site car parks, accessed from Daisy Street, and accessible toilet facilities.

Oikotan Inc. is a not-for-profit multicultural organisation founded in May 2021 and incorporated in 2022. Alongside the food festival it runs Brisbane's Durga Pujo (10–11 October 2026 at The Hills District Community Centre, Arana Hills), Saraswati Pujo, Lakshmi Pujo and an annual picnic, and was the first organisation to facilitate an official Bengali film release in Brisbane.
