About This Event
The Brisbane Malayalee Association (BMA) presents Ponnonam 2026, its annual Onam celebration, on Saturday 22 August 2026 from 9:30am onwards at Craigslea State High School, 685 Hamilton Road, Chermside West QLD 4032.
In BMA's own words, Ponnonam takes you back to the nostalgic experiences of Onam: the traditional Onam festivities and the Onasadya are intended to carry members, their families and friends back to Kerala and make Brisbane a home away from home.
The day is built around the two things that define Onam in the diaspora — a cultural programme of traditional Onam festivities, and the Onasadya, the vegetarian feast served on a banana leaf. Craigslea State High School is a school hall and grounds venue in Chermside West on Brisbane's northside, with on-site parking and bus services along Hamilton Road.
BMA has not published a start-to-finish schedule, a performance line-up or ticket pricing on its website; the listing states only a 9:30am start. For programme details, registration or Onasadya bookings, contact Biju Manchappilly on 0468 770 727 or Eldho P Thomas on 0481 336 123. BMA also posts event updates to its Facebook and Instagram pages.
