About This Event
Samudra Manthan is an epic Kathak dance production inspired by one of the most celebrated stories from Indian mythology - the Churning of the Cosmic Ocean. Bringing together over 100 dancers from diverse backgrounds and age groups, this large-scale production brings the timeless story to life through the grace, rhythm and storytelling traditions of Kathak, enhanced by music and visual theatre.
As the story unfolds, audiences are taken on a captivating journey through moments of conflict, determination, sacrifice, temptation and divine intervention. Through intricate footwork, expressive abhinaya, dynamic choreography, traditional Kathak compositions and immersive audiovisual elements, the ancient narrative is brought vividly to life on stage.
More than a mythological spectacle, it explores universal themes that still resonate - perseverance in adversity, the pursuit of higher purpose, the balance between opposing forces, and the power of unity and collaboration. Running time 2 hours including a 15-minute interval.
